Disruption

There is major disruption on ferry routes in the Outer Hebrides today. The Uig to Tarbert and Lochmaddy service is cancelled because the ferry ship Hebrides is in Ullapool, undergoing essential repairs. All lifeline supplies therefore have to come to Stornoway, meaning that bookings for motorhomes are liable to be cancelled (to make way for trucks). Those travelling to or from Uist have to go to Mallaig or Armadale, to sail to Lochboisdale. The ship on that route is the Lord of the Isles, but she is fully booked for today and tomorrow. I'll zip be by the ferry terminal again in a minute and expect more campervans and cars left behind in a haze of blue air... It's not funny if you have to travel, and that doesn't just apply to our visitors. I know of at least one FB contact who is stuck on the mainland, waiting to cross to Uist...

Forty degrees Celsius

The day that saw record temperatures in England, breaching 40C for the first time, was an overcast day with some rain in Stornoway. We had a temperature of 18C, which was quite pleasant. No extremes here, just an average summer's day.
